CROSSBORDER COLLECTION
A Fundraiser in Support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation

VERNISSAGE SATURDAY, 27 MARCH 2010 / 7PM -10PM
The exhibition runs from March 27th to March 28th 2010

La Petite Mort Gallery is proud to host its first fundraiser for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, a reputable organization that supports HIV/AIDS initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Thirty local and international photographers have generously agreed to donate one print each to the fundraiser to assist SLF in their work. The prints will be unmatted and unframed, each print will be sold for $100, (cash, credit or cheque) and all proceedss will go directly to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Additionally, Marjorie Kort – a member of SLF’S Grandmothers to Grandmothers – will be giving a brief presentation.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation is an HIV/AIDS initiative which supports community-based organizations. Since 2003, more than 300 programmes in 15 countries have been funded. These grassroots projects have included counselling and education about HIV prevention, care and treatment, distribution of food, medication and other necessities, providing home-based health care, helping orphans and vulnerable children access education and supporting grandmothers caring for their orphaned grandchildren.

Dan-Tam Nguyen and Zach Zimmel, two passionate HIV/AIDS activists, are organizing the fundraiser. To date, their combined efforts have raised over $10 000 for the foundation. Working with various grassroots HIV/AIDS initiatives in South Africa, they have been inspired by these community-based projects. “We have seen first hand how effective these programmes are and hope to be able to further support them. The work that the SLF does has immensely impacted the lives of others and can only continue to do so with the support of the international community. We are extremely grateful to the artists who have generously donated their work and to Guy for his benevolence in hosting this fundraiser. We would like to invite everyone to come to the Vernissage on Saturday, March 27th with their friends, families, and colleagues to celebrate and support this remarkable organization.”
