Stefan Pelmus
Artist statement:
“My symbols dialogize, like in a drama, the tree, the glass, the fish (meaningful for the quiet “pass” in the other world), the clock, the thorn…All those symbols must be read like an old manuscript. I would like to succeed, through my painting, not to be afraid of death anymore, to recover my inner equilibrium.” – Stefan Pelmus, 2011
As an artist who re-established the nightmare origins of the visionary artists from the 16th and 17th centuries, Stefan Pelmus proves that a gifted professional man and a veritable artist can discover new worlds with a proximity which make us considering them so real that we even start, unintentional, to look there for our own images, hidden somewhere between unknown plants, gentle animals and objects or associations of objects that seem to have a sort of magic thing or initiatory proprieties when, in fact, they are “only” the result of an adult game, of someone who didn’t lost his childhood joy and his spontaneous nature. - Radu Ionescu, Romanian critic, 2010
