The painting that I do for my works is memory induced. The works in this show have been greatly influenced from my travels through Italy, France and of course, Amsterdam. I have been greatly influenced by the works of Ecole de Paris artists with their unabashed vivid colours. My experience as a collector and art dealer of antique objects, furniture, etc shows through in my objet trouvé works. -Herman Ruhland
Frits comes to Canada in the summer and goes back to Amsterdam for winters. His interest in things found in the woods comes from collecting vintage gnomes, pottery and retro ceramics, and let’s not forget his fondness of farm and garden stones, for fauna and flora to be seen in our very own forested farm. His painted small figures that hang in trees are a total delight.
