Acclaimed photographer Jeff Thomas is an internationally recognized artist whose pieces are included in prominent public institutions such as the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian, Library & Archives Canada, the Museum of Civilization, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Canada Council Art Bank, and the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland.
An Iroquois/Onondaga artist Thomas is, best known for his work which focuses on challenging public notions of “Indian-ness” and juxtaposes historical stereotypes within the urban environment. His work is exhibited widely and was recently featured in the acclaimed show Stealing the Gaze: Portraits by Aboriginal Artists, which was held at the National Gallery of Canada, October 31, 2008 – March 22, 2009.
