Artist: Jean-Paul Lemieux (Canadian, 1904 – 1990)

One of Canada’s most recognized painters, Jean-Paul Lemieux was born in Quebec City on 1904. Lemieux studied under Edwin Holgate at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, and later studied advertising and art in Paris.

Noted for its’ realistic qualities, Lemieux’s work often depicts sombre figures which are set against minimalist Canadian landscapes.  His pieces are included in notable international collections worldwide and can also be found in important national collections such as the National Gallery of Canada, the McMicheal Collection and the Musée des Beaux Arts, to name a few. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts and a Companion of the Order of Canada, Lemieux was posthumously made a Grand Officer of the National Order of Quebec, in 1997.
