Garden Dwellers by Top Shelf

” This summer & fall, we commissioned 30 local artists to present us with their own unique vision & style using a 6 foot, self-standing wooden bottle cut-out as their canvas. Resulting in 30 wooden structures, the series brought together a diverse group of painters working in a number of different styles. The series does more than push the envelope in the realm of visual branding. It celebrates the coming together of a creative community and emphasizes our commitment to promoting local art and design. We decided to create an event to celebrate diverse local talent and showcase the spirit of the project.
The event features a “forest” installation of 30 six foot wooden structures, each depicting colorful interpretations of animals, birds, and people, alongside life size animal sculptures by Ottawa artist Natalie Grice. The installation marks a simple, yet striking visual collaboration that combines our forest of bottles, and Grice’s animal kingdom.
We believe that art and design lie at the core of community.
In a sense, this project allows us to visualize our urban habitat in its distilled state”.
