Diane Arbus (New York, USA: 1923-1971)

Diane Arbus was American photographer noted for her black-and-white square photographs of deviant of marginal individuals, her images often appearing surreal. The first major retrospective of Arbus’ work was held in 1972, a year after her death, at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City. The show drew huge crowds and praise for the humanity and formal beauty of her work.
Provenance: Acquired through Grazia Neri Gallery, Milan – an agency founded in 1966 which expanded to include a gallery in Milan as well as the organization of photography exhibitions across Italy.
