On December 5th, 2008, La Petite Mort — the gallery with balls— will open its doors to an outrageously significant exhibit. “Prick” will feature over 30 local and international male painters, including some from the gallery’s collection. With work by artists such as Andrew Harwood, James Huctwith, Leif Harmsen and Danny Buchanan, big name Toronto artists who are notorious for producing experimental and confrontational homo-erotic art, the exhibit is sure to leave a mark on the Ottawa art community.
The title of the show can be seen as denoting both the content of the exhibit as well as the function and concept of La Petite Mort Gallery. LPM Gallery director, Guy Berube, has been ‘pricking’ the Ottawa art community for quite some time with quirky, eccentric, stimulating visual and performance art. Although a small and independently owned gallery, La Petite Mort is pulling in some big names and continuing to shock and amaze art aficionados with explicitly controversial and experimental work. This particular show will feature an Alain Bonder double-sided canvas with his trademark “Creature from the Black Lagoon meets Versace”.
The show runs from December 5th – December 28th and invites viewers to shamelessly experience art on the fringe. Sassy, irreverent, futile, contemptible, sharp – this show stimulates introspection into the world of the Prick as well as the world of LPM Gallery. Written by Xan Woods
