I work from appropriated material and what I create is about my relationship to images. It’s a balance between something very social and equally personal. It’s in the world and it’s also very much inside me. More often then not, the images to which I pay most attention are those circulating in mass media. Those images are a reflection of our time and of our cultures. This is what, in my opinion, makes them such an interesting area of study. I often reflect on how we see all these horrible things on television, in movies and in the newspapers, yet we are usually unaware of how anaesthetized we’ve become to these images we encounter on a daily basis. Images are information, and there is so much of it out there that one’s importance over another has been lost, the ugly mixed in with the beauty, the serious tragedies and disasters lost on the frivolous and superficial. When and where do we take account for this?
