In collaboration with our friends in Valparaiso, Alexis Mandujano, Cristobal Traslaviña Berrios & ParqueCultural DeValparaíso.
La Petite Mort Gallery stands in solidarity with the people of Valparaiso, Chile.

In light of a devastating forest fire that has covered a major part of the city in smoke and ashes, the people of Valparaiso need your help.

The fire began last night and is still not contained. It has destroyed at least 500 homes and is forcing the evacuation of more than 3,000 people. As strong winds make the situation extremely difficult to manage, officials are currently rushing to ensure the fire does not advance and consume the downtown area. Most of the city is without electricity and many are without water.

LPM Gallery holds a strong connection with the incredible people of Valparaiso. We are currently planning a residency project in collaboration with the Parque Cultural de Valparaiso (PCdV) to be held in November. (An introduction to the concept can be found on our website.) The Parque Cultural has taken an extremely active role in responding to this tragedy and is asking for help from anyone who can do so.

Supplies are crucial. We are working directly with the Parque Cultural and have two close friends in Valparaiso, ready to purchase and immediately deliver to locals that which is needed (diapers, milk, food, etc.). Cash donations are best. They will provide for immediate action. And because looting is currently an issue, they ensure our contacts’ safety by allowing them to obtain receipts of the purchased goods.

In the past, LPM Gallery and its supporters have aided in quick and immediate disaster relief, from the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2011 Tsunami in Japan, and others. We are currently in the process of planning a fundraising event that will be announced shortly. However, we will begin accepting cash/cheque donations as soon as tomorrow morning (Monday April 14) from which to transfer to our contacts. In light of this unfolding tragedy, we encourage your immediate action.
