Born in 1976, Montreal, I’ve lived in both Montreal and the Ottawa region. I started drawing at three and grew up surrounded by the arts. My dad always had his studio at home, as well as a printing press, through which I used to run the occasional destructive penny. I now live and work in Montreal.
My paintings start with an impulse, which, through the juxtaposition of contrasting images, become compositions. Each image—an instinct, an emotion, a concrete thought formed in acrylic, oil, or charcoal—emerges from and changes in the collision, at once transformed by and transforming the initial impulse.
The collision, the struggle, the dynamic interaction of objects – the complex layering that both lives in and drives my work. The gaps and overlay of the composition open the pieces to interpretation, to second glances, double-takes and playful revision.
